Count Your Parts It’s that time of year, when we start putting routines together for our gymnasts. Today we are going to construct a Level 8 Beam and bar routine. I selected this level, since the counting of value parts is crucial at this level. Here is the routine:
Missing Flight Series (.50), Missing 1 “B” skill (.30) Start Value 9.20What you must remember in putting routines together is that skills must “enter” or “exit” DIFFERENTLY. Yes, each value part can be rewarded twice, but they must enter or exit a series differently. Because she stops between the back springs and cat leap ½ both skills enter and exit the series the SAME way. That is why the second back spring and cat leap ½ cannot receive credit. Also, the wolf jump has been devalued to an “A” skill. If the gymnast had completed a tuck jump directly connected to the second back spring it would have exited differently and the “B” would have been rewarded. For this reason, you need to have back-up skills in the routine so that all value parts receive credit. Here is a Level 8 bar routine:
10.0 Start Value 5- “A’s” 5- “B’s” 4- “0’s” If you have any questions, please email me at BRANT323@comcast.net I will help in any way that I can. Brant Lutska |
